Business Manager (Supervisory Position)

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION:

The Business Manager is charged with providing the financial leadership necessary for creating and maintaining conditions for a high level of credibility, accountability and efficiency within the school. The Business Manager will assist in planning, organizing, directing and managing the overall financial and business functions to assure the school’s financial well-being. He/She will supervise employees in the business office, serve as cash manager and investment officer, and serve on the school’s administrative team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Serves as an advisor and consultant to the President/Principal on budget details.
  2. Obtains the annual budget requirements for all departments and prepares the annual budget document under the supervision of the President/Principal.
  3. Supervises the maintenance of the school’s fiscal accounting system in a manner consistent with established and accepted governmental accounting principles and practices and in sufficient detail to produce adequate revenue, expenditure, and statistical data for management purposes.
  4. Control daily cash flow and invest all available funds in accordance with school’s investment policy.
  5. Provide and maintain adequate controls and safeguards to protect school funds and property.
  6. Supervises the collection, safekeeping, and distribution of all funds, including tuition.
  7. Develops and installs accounting procedures; assists bookkeeping staff within the school in resolving financial issues of the school.
  8. Administers a budget control system for the school.
  9. Prepares and distributes monthly revenue and expenditure summaries to the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.
  10. Prepares a monthly cash flow report, comparing revenues and expenditures with budgeted and actual figures, and share report with the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.
  11. Compiles data for any/all state and federal reports related to the school’s financial practices; completes and files all such reports.
  12. Oversee and manage the financial transactions of student body funds, capital project funds, grant funds, and trust funds.
  13. Attends Finance Committee meetings and makes reports to the Board as directed by the President/Principal.
  14. Annually submit all financial records for audit, coordinate the audit process, and prepare comprehensive annual financial report.
  15. With assistance from other staff in the department, coordinate the prompt completion of reports and payment of all bills. Direct the timely completion of monthly payroll and manage the school’s benefit packages.
  16. Perform other such duties as assigned by the President/Principal.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Business Administration.  CPA preferred but not required.
  2. Knowledge of professional accounting principles, techniques and procedures, and comprehensive financial reporting.
  3. Progressive thinking in the areas of business management and staff supervision.
  4. Able to work cooperatively with others.
  5. Able to provide leadership in budget planning, in cooperation with administration and staff.
  6. Extensive technical skills in the areas of budgeting and monitoring a multi-million dollar budget.
  7. Excellent skills in the area of fiscal management and staff supervision.
  8. Able to complete essential functions of position.
